After 3 performances of Nitin past week i'm halfway the Traces festival where i'm seen Nitin in all kind of different of sets. So i'm haven't really any special wishes to see him collaborate with any musican in special. Past days he performed and share the stage with all kind of different musicans (from Natacha Atlas, Metropole Orchestra, drum n bass DJs, students and jazz musicians) and was amazed how Nitin give his own vibe in that music. still have some "dream" collaborations when i'm daydream but i'm think Nitin himself knows what he want and make the best out to fit in his own music.

....... or perhaps not.... Rosemary, do you remember ADF's old site? Hey, actually..... remember the kind of spam their forum used to get? Wow, it made the online casinos and dodgy drugstores, that once tormented this site, look pretty lightweight by comparison! So, anyway, clearly this is not the same Jurgen as the ADF dutch fan Jurgen.......Sorry about that....

Actually Buga, I don't recall ever visiting ADF's forum - or even checking whether they have a fansite on Facebook. At the mo I seem to be spending most of my net time subscribing and unsubscribing to various lists before my original email address disappears into the ether. I never realised how many newsletters I get - and still haven't managed to get the notifications from this one changed to my new one. I have until February 19th to get it all done..... On the subject of collaborations, I notice Laura Izibor was reported on the BBC TV News as being "the next big thing". Nitin will no doubt be gratified that he has spotted another good one and collaborated with her at the Jazz cafe gig in 2005 or the Electric Proms 2006. If people want to look her up her website is www.lauraizibor.com

hey Buga, its indeed me the Dutch guy who run the ADF fansite. To be honest prefer to see Nitin playing with others than with ADF (maybe a song with thier orginal vocalist Deeder Zaman would be great).

Oh Wow! T'is you, THE Jurgen! What an honour! Yeah, maybe such a collaboration would be stretching styles a bit too far, if you know what I mean. I was lucky enough to see the latest ADF incarnation performing a few days after Nitin's Roundhouse gig and they may have gone through some changes but the music still cool. I had no idea that they were playing except that the newest (?) member is an old work colleague of a friend and she was going as much to see him perform as the rest of the band. Also, Nathan "Flutebox" Lee was one of the supporting acts - I'd be amazed if you haven't seen him performing somewhere! So, anyway, back to the subject of collaborations, being as you are something of a connoisseur of sounds, who would you suggest to work with the maestro?

Had the change here to see ADF twice in Amsterdam and couple days later in Hannover. Few days later i'm saw Nitin Sawhney playing in Amsterdam where they where opening the India festival. The most i'm look that time forward to Nitin's gig in that period because saw ADF already in the latest ADF incarnation before at a summerfestival somewhere in Germany and hadn't see Nitin playing for ages.
what would be cool to be hear with the maestro is Michael Franti. remeber when i'm was last september in London at record exchange to find there the album sampler. After i'm came back in Forrest Gate, where i'm stay that time i'm start listening and was really thinking that the shop-guy put the wrong album init and that i'm heard Michael Franti instead of Natty :) A other great collaboration in my eyes would be with Sista K of the French band Watcha Clan.

Hmmm.... not sure about Michael Franti but Sista K... that would be amazing, wouldn't it? She seems like quite a 'strong' character though, Jurgen.... are you sure that she wouldn't just eat Nitin alive?

Re: Collaborations We'd Like to See
L. Shankar from Shakti fame is my dream collaborator with Nitin Sawnhey. The album would be co-produced by Eno and Robin Williamson from the Incredible String Band will drop by. Philip Glass will add some strings and Bach, Vivaldi and Akbar will come down from Above to admire his composition. Hans Zimmer will 'go halfs' with the movie score set in Mysore, scripted by George MacDonald-Fraser (read Flashman!) and Nitin and I will just hang out watching the sunset over the lake at Pushkar, while he admires my tin-whisle playing.

in my ear is sounds the voice of Natty very common with Michael Franti's voice so i'm would think this will be also great. Same about lyrics, both they are writing very concious lyrics.
Sista K of Watcha Clan have for sure an amazing voice and she sing in a lot of difference languages. Was totally suprised about seeing them live after i'm heard thier most recent album Diaspora Hi-Fi. Without doubt Diaspora Hi-Fi become one of my favourite albums from last year.

Jurgen, I won't question your judgement - Franti it is then! Rarehipster (aptly named!) thanks for mentioning The Incredible String Band - talk about playing a wildcard! I will have to dig deep into my vinyl to pull out my old TISB albums. My absolute favourite track is Log Cabin In The Sky and I have fond memories of hearing a Mancunian Oldtime band playing it at Bluegrass festivals.... perhaps I shall sing it to myself while I go foraging for lunch in the wilds of Islington.....

The Log Cabin in the Sky comes from the Wee Tam album. This album is especially apt to the subject of Nitin Sawnhey. The blend of west meets east (or as Ravi Shankar once said "West eats meat.." ha ha ha) has it's flower power/hippie/acid folk peak here and has several excellent cross cultural tracks. It even stands the test of time! I know my love of Nitins music stems back to songs like The Yellow Snake and The Half remarkable Question and I have always been searching for music that has equal integrity. Thanks for the comment!
John McLaughlin, with the complete Shakti line up would be a fabulous mix with Nitin. NS adds the brilliant electronic edge that McLaghlin appreciated but never embraced.

"Wee Tam" Yes, well. You know it's weird how some albums sneak into your life and you don't know why.... most likely, it was something one of my folks picked up and thought they'd pass onto their unsuspecting daughter. I actually prefer the first album, which also mysteriously turned up in my vinyl around the same time as Wee Tam.... Jurgen, incase you've never heard of The Incredible String Band, you could say that they were like The Fool, except for their a comparatively subtle-hued wardrobe. By the way, it appears that I also have a copy of The Fool and, again, I just don't know how it got there..... . Anyway, I wanted to find an informative link for TISB and I came across this....a bit of a 6 degrees thing going on and courtesy of the station that interviewed Mr. Sawhney last month....(yes, remember him? I think this is still his forum!!! ) http://wissel.radio6.nl/2007/06/05/de-wissel-van-simon-posthuma-playlist/?cp=all Meanwhile, I can't get the Log Cabin song out of my head. Admittedly, last week I had the same problem with Nelly The Elephant (hey, but at least that song could save a life one day!). However, it has reminded me of an alternative sound for "Sunset" that crept into my head as I drifted off to sleep one evening. I'll leave it to you to suggest actual musicians but here's the instruments... dobro, mandola, banjo, autoharp, fiddle... each one intertwining and layering notes as crisp as mountain air ....kind of......

Hey BugaDivino, thanks for the links to get an idaea about who are The Incredible String Band, hadn't heard from them before and the same about The Fool (however they come from Netherlands, maybe i'm need dig more into the nederpop (dutch music) history). Yes indeed Wissel on Radio 6 did the interview earlier this year and also Aad van Nieuwkerk interview recently when Nitin Sawhney was @ Traces Festival in Tilburg before the acoustic session they (Nitin and Aref) did.

I'm sure that they (The Fool) may also have designed clothes for the Beatles shop, The Apple Boutique. Certainly, they came up with the mural outside, which must've been an amazing sight back in '67. I have to admit though, the album I just can't take seriously!
